Whatâs new?
Here are the features added compared to the previous beta:
Bugfixes
- On some Macs, saving your document as JPEG, TIFF or PNG could result in a transparent image being saved, instead of your original artwork. The artwork is now always correctly saved.
- On Macs with a discrete GPU, the previous beta introduced a speed regression causing important stutters while moving the layer contents through the Move Tool. It is now back to full speed .
General
-
At app launch, a welcome window is displayed instead of automatically creating a new document. This welcome window displays your last opened artworks along with thumbnails for easy choice. Thumbnails require macOS 10.15, a generic file icon is shown on macOS 10.14.
-
A new âReport a BugâŚâ menu is introduced in the Help menu. It allows running a diagnostic tool that will help us handle your report faster. If you use Apple Mail for sending e-mails, an e-mail will be automatically prepared for you.
Thumbnails & Previews
-
Starting from macOS 10.15, the Finder will now display thumbnails representing your ArtOverflow document contents instead of a generic file icon.
-
Starting from macOS 10.15, ArtOverflow document contents can be previewed in QuickLook and Spotlight.
Open & Save UX
-
We have worked on file open & save workflow to ensure that you donât lose layer data without warning. More precisely, when opening a document that does not support layers, youâre proposed to convert it.
-
Similarly, when saving a new document, youâre warned if you choose to save to a format that doesnât support layers.
Miscellaneous
- Support for saving documents as GIF or BMP images has been dropped:
- BMP is an uncompressed format and has no advantage over TIFF and PNG which provide lossless compression.
- GIF is limited to 256 colors, and GIF encoding by macOS results in images losing a part of their content as soon as the 256 available colors have all been used.
- GIF and BMP formats can still be opened in ArtOverflow but saving them will require choosing another format.
