The second beta of ArtOverflow has arrived!
System requirements
- macOS 10.14 and later
Download
ArtOverflow.app.zip (5 MB)
What’s new?
Here are the features added compared to the previous beta:
General
- Performance is significantly improved on a Mac with Intel GPU (MacBook, MacBook Pro 13", Mac Mini) when ArtOverflow is displayed on a high resolution monitor / display tablet. Stroke is now perfectly smooth on a UHD / 4K monitor.
- Memory usage for Undo history is significantly reduced. This could make the application temporarily freeze, and prevent drawing during that time.
- A drawing bug happening when using a display tablet with touch enabled, a finger on the tablet and at the same time a stylus, has been fixed.
Layers
- A new Layers panel shows the list of layers of the current drawing
- A new ArtOverflow document format is introduced: it allows saving drawings while preserving layers.
- This new ArtOverflow document format is only provided for tests purpose: it is not guaranteed that later versions of ArtOverflow will be able to read the document created by this beta.
- Layers can be added, removed, reordered, renamed, shown and hidden
- 5 blend modes are currently available: Normal, Multiply, Overlay, Linear Burn, Linear Dodge
Currently known limitations
- Adding many layers, or using layers with huge canvas (eg. 16,000 × 16,000 pixels) currently requires a lot of memory, which can make ArtOverflow slower. A reasonable usage for now is 20 layers with 4,000 × 4,000 canvas. You can go further if your Mac has enough memory.
- Adding or removing layers cannot be cancelled
What’s coming next?
- Bugfixes and other improvements depending on your feedback
- Fix for the above limitations
- Be able to have settings per tool rather than global
- Be able to import images in the current document as a new layer
